1. If I have a problem with my service, whom should I talk to?
Our office staff or service technicians can readily answer most questions concerning your lawn. Service managers are available to answer any specific questions.
2. Is there a contract to sign?
No, Diamond Lawn will continue to service your lawn application to application and year to year until we are notified to stop. It is your responsibility to notify us to stop the service.
3. How will I be invoiced?
Our technicians will leave the invoice along with instructions at you door after each application, unless you have requested that your invoice be mailed.
4. Can you call me prior to the application?
Yes. We will be glad to call the day before any application if you would like notification. Please provide us with a number to contact you during normal business hours, or let us know if we can leave a message on your answering machine.

5. What can I expect from my lawn care program?
Our program will provide a green lawn and control of weeds in turf areas.
6. Why do you use granular fertilizers?
We only use granular fertilizer. It costs more but the slow-release fertilizers provide a long-lasting response and are safer for the turf. It also allows us to customize our programs based on weather conditions and your lawns’ needs.
7. Do you recommend preventive grub control each year?
Yes. White grubs can be very destructive and can damage your lawn quickly. Eliminating grubs also helps prevent damage from animals such as opossums, skunks, and raccoons which can ruin a lawn digging for grubs.
8. If I don’t get the preventive can you still control the grubs when they are present?
Yes. We do have products to quickly control grubs; however the price is the same as the preventive and you may have to repair any damage caused by the grubs.

9. I have clumps of wide bladed grass growing in my yard; do your applications control this?
No. In general most of the wide bladed grass in home lawns is Tall Fescue or Quackgrass. They are permanent grasses and need to be removed and re-seeded. Generally a chemical called Roundup® is used to kill the root system and prevent re-growth of the unwanted weed. (This product does kill the existing grass and will cause the sprayed areas to turn brown).
10. What do recommend if I have pets?
We ask that you keep people and pets off any spray applications until they have thoroughly dried. You can enter the treated area after a granular application once any dust has settled. Watering the application the following day will also help move any products from the foliage into the soil. Please call our office if any further information is needed.
11. What if I notice weeds still actively growing a couple weeks after your application?
Please call us. We offer free service calls to our full program customers. Our technicians will gladly re-visit your lawn to make sure our program is working properly.
12. How long will it take for my weeds to disappear?
Weed control can take from 2 to 4 weeks before you see the full benefit of the application. Variables such as temperature and rainfall can affect results.

13. What if it rains after your weed control application?
In general our applications will work once they have had time to dry on the plant, usually in about an hour. We also use products to help the herbicides stick to the weeds in adverse conditions. Products such as grub controls, pre-emergent and fertilizers are actually helped by rainfall. As always, we have free service calls if the results are not satisfactory.
14. Can you get grass to grow in the shade?
Growing grass in shaded conditions can sometimes be difficult. We generally recommend over-seeding the areas with shade tolerant grass such as fine fescue. As trees become larger, so does their need for space and nutrients, causing grass to thin. Some areas that will not support grass growth may best be planted with shade tolerant ground cover such as Ivy, Myrtle, or Pachysandra.
15. I have moles damaging my lawn. What can you do?
Michigan State Extension recommends trapping as the best removal method. There area also repellents and baits available at garden centers throughout the area. Moles mainly feed on earthworms, but also eat grubs and other insects. Applying a grub control does not guarantee control of moles!
We now offer a mole bait called Talprid®. Prices start at $150 per season.
16. Do you offer surface insect control?
Yes. Surface insect control is available for insects such as chinch bugs, sod webworms and billbugs. It is an additional application charge and can be included in your program annually if requested.

17. How often will I receive applications?
We work to keep applications between 6-8 weeks. Applications such as the preventive grub control may overlap the regular visits. These applications are done when weather and timing permit their most effective control.
18. How often should I water my lawn?
In general, we recommend 1 inch of water per week under normal weather conditions. We recommend more during hot, dry periods and less during wet, rainy periods. A rain gauge is very handy in keeping track of water amounts.
19. Can my lawn be mowed the same day you apply an application?
We ask that you delay mowing for 24 hours if possible. We also recommend that you return your clippings back to the lawn. This helps recycle the nutrients and provides a greener lawn.
20. When can I seed my lawn?
The ideal time to seed lawns in this part of Michigan is between August 15th and September 15th. You can actually get good results anytime the grass is actively growing, however you may have to deal with weeds and crabgrass with a spring seeding. As with any new seeding proper watering is essential for good results. If a pre-emergent has been applied you may want to remove the areas and put in new topsoil for best results.
21. What should I do if my mowing service arrived after you fertilized?
Lawn mowing services do not remove any significant amount of fertilizer from the yard.

22. Is this program organic?
No. It uses new and traditional technologies to provide high quality turf.
23. Can I start at any time during the year?
Yes. Ideally it would be best to begin in the spring but if you decide to start later, our application price will be adjusted accordingly.
24. If I feel the color is not right will you apply more fertilizer at no additional charge?
Yes. We stand behind Polyon® fertilizer and have the support of its manufacturer. We will also treat weeds as a free service call if needed.
25. Since I won’t see you as often, can I call if I have questions?
Absolutely. We are here to help with your lawn care needs.
26. Does this program control fungus in the lawn?
No. Fungicides are available as an additional service and charge. While the fertilizer can help provide nutrients needed by the turf during the growing season, it cannot control any disease problems.
27. On what information do you base your environmental statements?
We base our programs on information from the manufacturers based upon multiple university studies.
28. Are you going to call me non-stop to try and sell me things I don’t need?
No. We do not tele-market. Our technicians may recommend things such as fungicides, grub controls, or aeration, but we will not call you to sell these services unless you ask for more information.
29. If I have bare or damaged areas in my lawn, will this program help them recover?
No. Damaged areas require other attention such as re-seeding or re-sodding, services which we do not provide.
30. If I am a current customer, can I switch to this program?
Yes we will start with your next application and your bill will be adjusted accordingly.
